Ocean's Twelve (2004)

Otherwise, I understand the logic behind the Oceans twelve. After Ocean's Eleven was a huge success, told the people behind it they could go ahead with a sequel. But they were confident that people do not want to see the same thing again, so they decided to have a larger cast, more (smaller) heists and three "villains" for us to root against. On paper, all of this makes sense, except for possibly "less" part.

We start with a knock on your front door Danny Ocean (Clooney Geordge) and Tess (Julia Roberts) houses. Guess who's back? That's right, this is the antagonist from the previous film, Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia). Danny is not at home, so he leave a terrible message for Tess: thieves from the first film has two weeks to pay him back his 163 million dollars and interest or they will all be dead. He goes to every other Member of the Group and tells them the same things. Why Tess or Danny not phone the others and tell them to get out of dodge does not explain, but it gets a pass because it is a good way to show us any member of the original eleven, while also letting us see what they have done their time after to get away with millions of dollars.

I am not going to describe the vote again, if you look in the ocean eleven sequel, you should already know who they are. Instead, I reckon additions. Catherine Zeta-Jones and starring as detective stationed in Amsterdam, as we see in the opening scene was romantically involved with Brad Pitt's character, Rusty. She spends most of his time chasing our group of thieves around, but as she and Rusty were involved before, which will come up as Tess and Danny's relationship did in the previous film. Vincent Cassel plays a rival thief and our third major antagonist, although it would have been nice to see more of him, since he only shows after the midpoint, and not keep frequently, and on the road as he pleases.

So the gang gets back together and are aware that arrive with 190 million dollars will be quite difficult. They decide to fly to Amsterdam in hopes to find a job. They have one, but it is only worth EUR 2.3 million, nowhere near enough to pay off their debts. They take it anyway, and this is only a few thefts will take up most of our time for the rest of the film.

Why the Ocean's Eleven worked so well was its casting, so it made sense to bring back the same people to do a sequel. But this film played more to how their careers had done up to this point. This time, there are signs that may far more screen time than the other, while those who are missing in time get put in jail as an excuse. When we arrive in Amsterdam, you do not see much of Bernie Mac, Eddie Jemison as, Elliott Gould, Scott Caan and Carl Reiner, although the latter not even accompany them on the trip, citing age based.

Instead, we get a lot of George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, which I suppose makes sense because they make the most money, but helps it feels like a group dynamic. The character is all still sophisticated and not take everything too seriously, but there is a lack of focus on them and more action, which is a shame. If I wanted to see more of these characters, I would probably be better to look at Ocean's Eleven "again, because I can get more out of it.

This would not be too big problems to overcome if it was good, but there is something special. We move from place to place, forget about everything that happened before. For example, seems to be mostly on the screen, characters that are not urgent because they seem to forget that they will be killed in less than two weeks. There is not too often, and they spend much time meandering around. In a scene is George Clooney is asking people if he looks 50 years old, and that is all that is happening. If my life was on the line, would I be concerned about how old I was watching.

There are still smart moments, however. Bruce Willis reveals at one point playing himself, while one of heists means that Julia Roberts ' character, Tess, stop playing good, Julia Roberts. They look naturally both, so the votes are trying to use the appearance to get past a bunch of security, only to be stopped by Willis who claims to be a friend of Roberts. It was pretty funny, but it was also the point where I stopped losing interest because I knew how we had to put an end to this point. If filmmaker does not take this seriously anymore, no ending is difficult to predict.

Otherwise Oceans becomes twelve never a chore to watch, but not if you're trying to make sense of it all, or if you are hoping for a big heist that in the first film. It's just a plain Capers film, focusing on a plot of land that jump from point to point as a comic book moved from joke for joke, instead of the characters. It can actually be a better movie to some, but for me it's just done it seems unfocused and sometimes not so fun to watch, even if all the actors seem to be enjoying themselves.

Oceans twelve remains overall a fun look at, but no specific one which made the Ocean's Eleven large. Characters that appeared to be on vacation, have fun, but do nothing of value, while the group dynamic collapsed, many of them in prison for most of the time spent abroad. And yet, as there are no cleverness to jumpy plot, and because the actors who seemed to have fun, it's hard to dislike it, don't go in expecting another Ocean's Eleven, but because it is not as good as that film was.

The above author's byline must be attached to work on is deployed.
